I recently saw the modern Resident Evil 4 movie in the movie house yestarday. I am aware the very first thing everyone would like to find out will probably be "is the 3D really worth the additional fee?". In a word certainly. I experienced some difficulty adapting to it (the way I view colors is marginally different from 'regular' vision) nonetheless about 20 mins in I had my focus and completely savored the movie.
You will find a considerable amount of the cheesy traditional 3D effects (oh look yet another knife, bullet casing or whatever had been shot straight at the screen for no apparent reason...) in the motion picture. However what seriously tips the scales is how much of the normal things is in 3D. Every scene in the movie (even the opening credits!) includes some 3D elements to it, and the backdrops are simply remarkable. Half the time I felt like I was really on the other side of the screen observing the story happen.
Which brings me to the story. Fans of the games know; the films are a world onto themselves, maintaining several characters and locales yet making a completely new storyline. Anybody that hasn't enjoyed the game titles might be left questioning what's going on on occasion. The executioner is the type of figure who adds next to nothing to the plot of this Resident Evil 4 movie, but fans will enjoy the nod in our direction.
In general the story is predictable since it employs the same style as the first three but it is rather good. Prior to second half you already know who'll endure and who's zombie food. There is some good identity development with all the main pro antagonists, a little bit less with the assisting personas, and none with the zombie fodder. Yet, you know who those are so you will not really care.
The visuals are wonderful. It is almost all already been done before but it's however aesthetically captivating. The airplane-exploding-in-slow-motion scene is excellent; one of my own favorites alongside the beachfront scene. Once again, the 3D is well worth the price and in these situations necessary to totally value the elegance of the filming. The gore wasn't very over-the-top but I certainly comprehend the R rating. Older teenagers (or whoever has played out the games) will be able to cope with it though.
If you enjoyed the first three movies you are going to definitely like this Resident Evil 4 movie. If you have not viewed them, but like action films, you will still enjoy it.
